Research in Germany has shown that the decline in storks around Berlin between 1970 and 1985 coincided with less babies being born in the area.

When the population of storks started increasing again after 1995, there was also an increase in deliveries outside city-hospitals.

Here is the complete article: New evidence for the Theory of the Stork

For folk beliefs and things like theories connected to astrology we will always find cases that seem to confirm the theory or belief. If only we keep looking for confirmation. But does that also mean it is true?

What is your conclusion?

Astronomers have figured out the probably date and hour of idea for Frankenstein’s monster.

Can we do something with the 4 pillars chart of a fictitious entity?

It is worth trying.

This would be the “birth” chart:

Rat year and Rat day. Rat isn’t famous for being the prettiest animal, so that fits with Frankenstein’s ugliness.

Physically very tall and strong, that fits with Horse month and Ox hour.

He is often portrayed with a pale blue face, fitting for a Metal DM.

The chart has a lot of clash, especially a complete clash between day and month pillar. This can indicate conflict with parents , in this case with the creator of Frankenstein, which is indeed a major theme of the story.

An untimely and weak Metal DM with no Parallel. He was of course unique and didn’t find much support or love in the story. He tried to force his creator to make a woman for him, so that he would have a friend/Parallel. That too fits with the chart, as this weak Metal DM will long for more Parallel.

So, all in all, this chart doesn’t match the story badly.

We know that the DNA of a person determines a lot of his characteristics, physically and even in terms of certain talents or diseases he will have.
But we cannot predict the person’s life from his DNA, we cannot tell what profession he will chose, we cannot tell when he will marry, we cannot tell if he will get a bad accident, and so on…
So even though the science of DNA is proven , there are limitations to what can be predicted with it.

We could say that the astrology chart is like the energetic DNA of the person.
But effects of astrology have not been clearly proven so far, which suggest that it is a weaker effect than DNA. So, naturally, astrology will also have its limitations.

Some people expect astrology to answer all kind of details about their life: what to do, where to go, when to start something,…
But they will always be disappointed. Astrology cannot answer all those detailed questions. Even DNA does not answer those questions.
A few things work in astrology, just like the moon creates high and low tides on earth.
But a lot of techniques do not work at all.
And there is a reason for it.

Our luck and ‘destiny’ change all the time, and not rarely by things that are not in our hands.
Even the weather in your place on any given day can change the further course of your life.
The weather may cause you to stay at home, where otherwise you would have gone out.
Staying home you might avoid some accident, or you might miss some opportunity.
At a person’s birth it cannot be predicted what the weather will be when he is 34 years 3 months and 7 days old.
So it cannot be predicted whether he will go out or stay home that day.
Which means we don’t know if he will meet the calamity or the opportunity that is waiting for him that day.
Thus, the course of his life can change either way that day, regardless of his birth chart.

We go through such moments many times in life, where a futile detail can make a big difference.
So it is impossible to predict what or where a person will be when he is 10 years, 20 years, 30 years old…
Too many unpredictable ‘chaotic’ factors can change his life direction on any crossroads a person passes.

This shows us the limitations of astrology.

That’s a quote taken from an article listing 10 questions that astronomers ask about astrology.

See: http://www.astrosociety.org/astrology.pdf

It is an interesting read.

Here is another quote:

Some time ago astronomers Culver and Ianna tracked the published predictions of well-known astrologers and astrological organizations for five years. Out of more than 3,000 specific predictions (including many about politicians, film stars, and other famous people), only about 10 percent came to pass. Veteran reporters - and probably many people who read or watch the news - could do a good deal better by educated guessing.

Some interesting research results shown in charts. This is what astrology needs if it wants to get a better reputation.

I hope to do the same for four pillars when the next version of my program is ready.

Some professional astrologers are against newspaper astrology columns, saying that it has given astrology a bad reputation.

But is that so?

Many newspapers also have a medical column, which regularly gives general tips and advice on health topics. Do these columns destroy the reputation of doctors and hospitals?

Of course not!
People are realistic enough and know that the newspaper only gives very general health information, and if they have a specific problem they have to consult a doctor or specialist.
Medicine *would* have a bad reputation if the service these doctors and specialist provide was no better than what is found in the newspaper free of charge.

And that’s the problem of astrology.
It is not the newspaper column that creates a bad reputation for astrology, if anything it generates public interest for astrology. But if the astrologer gives his clients information and advice that is as general and vague as the newspaper column, then his paying customer will feel cheated. That’s what creates bad reputation. Don’t blame the newspaper column for it.

Think you can forecast the weather with astrology or divination techniques?

There is an easy way to test yourself, and maybe even build a reputation or land a job.

Metcheck.com offers weather forecasting services (= a big business) for the UK.

On their site they have a daily weather forecast challenge, where you can try to do better than the official forecasts. The job is to forecast the weather for London a few days out (temperature, pressure and rainfall at 12pm). You can use anything you want to make your forecasts. If you do well persistently you can climb the ranking , and then maybe you will get spotted..

Here it is: http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/INTERACTIVE/challenge.asp

It’s very easy to register and participate.

Interesting article about an astrology test done by the Dutch Skepsis organization in the 1990s

It is not the job of skeptics to “disprove” astrology.
It is the job of astrologers to provide hard evidence that astrology does work.
